A 5kW off-grid solar kit has just been installed at Wind34 at Lake Salagou, located between Millau and Beziers, to meet the growth of its business. It will power a beer pump from the Brasserie du Larzac (Larzac brewery produces organic, unfiltered and unpasteurized craft beers!), and a fresh lemonade dispenser until late at night.

Already equipped with 5 FREECOLD freezers and refrigerators (powered by 24V) acquired over the last 10 years, Wind34 will be able to gradually switch its future equipment to 230V.

This kit includes a 5kW hybrid inverter, a 2.5kW solar power supply, 5kWh lithium battery storage and electrical safety boxes, DC on the photovoltaic input and AC on the 230V output.

Kokioho’s Workshop, founded by Mrs Leila Liberge, is an agro-food processing company for coconut and tropical fruits. The Workshop aims to increase local food security by relying on the processing of agricultural surpluses. While reducing the ecological footprint of food imports and stimulating local employment.

The rooftop solar panels, with a power of 5.4kWp, power a three-phase hybrid inverter, which will be able to supply the surplus energy produced to the local electricity grid.

The container includes a 10m3 positive cold room to store harvested fruit and processed products (yoghurt, milk, cream, pasteurized coconut water, and fruit juice and compote) on shelves and a 360-litre freezer for a small production of coconut ice cream and fruit sorbets.

These 3 solar rooms are part of a project of the Haitian Ministry of Agriculture financed by the World Bank to support fishermen associations in their economic development. This is a significant increase in the aid provided, which until now has consisted of the supply of boxes and coolers made of styrofoam.

The equipment has been installed and commissioned by Vidro Trading, our distributor based in Port-au-Prince, on the south coast, in Cavaillon – Baie des Flammants, Aquin and Les Coteaux. Local associations, trained and supervised, manage the cold rooms themselves.

This all stainless steel model, which complies with European (EN 13732) and American (ISO 5708) standards, is an integral part of our range of autonomous solar tanks, from the 50-litre mini-tank for small producers to the large 1000 and 2000-litre units.

The hybrid design of the systems we have designed and sold, allows the injection on the local electrical grid (in 220V but in 60Hz) of the electric surplus produced during the day by the photovoltaic modules and not consumed by the milk tanks. Nothing is lost!

The largest island in the Caribbean, Cuba has an honourable human development index (67th out of 188 according to the United Nations HDI), although the country suffers from the American embargo and a very high level of dependence on the outside world, particularly in terms of energy and food.

The country faces many challenges in a unique economic and political context. The island is now seeking to open up to foreign investors to ensure its food security or meet the growing demand for energy while orienting its energy mix towards green energies.

As a country located in the path of cyclones, it is also particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change and highly exposed to natural disasters, as recalled by Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Under the PRODEGAN project, the Cuban state, which imports 70-80% of its food needs, seeks to promote the sustainable development of the livestock sector, and to modernise it, with the support of IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development, a specialised United Nations agency for food and agriculture) and AFD (Agence Française de Développement).

The production system that predominated until the 1990s, based entirely on the state sector, has gradually given way to a system that allows the development of private family farming. Today, producers’ cooperatives administer 69% of agricultural land compared to 31% for state agencies. Even though private agriculture has shown its efficiency, its development is strongly constrained by the lack of agricultural equipment and technology. The upgrading of the sector therefore involves the re-equipment of agricultural equipment and inputs and the eradication of an invasive species (the marabú) while avoiding a return to the resource-intensive mining and chemical exploitation that predominated at the end of the 1980s. The challenge for the livestock sector is to aim for a sustainable intensification of production, as well as an improvement in the productivity and safety of the downstream sectors (dairies and slaughterhouses).

The main objective of this project, which covers nearly 400,000 ha in the province of Camagüey, is to revive milk and meat production through the re-equipment of 105 cooperatives, 15 service providers and 2 agro-industries (a dairy and a slaughterhouse), for the benefit of 11,500 farms (35,000 people).

The expected increase in production will

• boost the economic and social activities of this region in the centre-east of the island;
• reduce the country’s milk imports;
• promote the inclusion of women and young people as well as the essential role of the private sector in agriculture.

Noella Technologie had to adapt the installations to the constraints of each hospital, in particular for the fixing of the photovoltaic modules. Each of the systems delivered includes a 200-litre 6-drawer freezer, 2 x 330Wp solar modules, 4 x 80Ah batteries, an automatic Duo-Freecold switch, a 230V/24V power supply and an earthing kit.

Noel Emmanuel Senou of Noella Technologie also provided training for the laboratory staff in the use and maintenance of the equipment and facilities, which were fully funded by Fondation Mérieux.

Fondation Mérieux is an independent foundation created in 1967 and recognised as a public utility. Its mission is to contribute to global health by strengthening local capacities in developing countries to reduce the impact of infectious diseases that affect vulnerable populations, particularly mothers and children.

As part of the response to the COVID 19 pandemic, Fondation Mérieux has therefore supported the Laboratory Division of the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal Access to Health Care in Togo, through the RESAOLAB project, for the acquisition of these 7 pieces of equipment.

To complete the work on the new fishing port of Mopti on the Niger River, our partner DOLO Froid in Bamako is installing two solar cold rooms that will be operated by fishmonger organisations (wholesalers who buy fish products locally and ship them to fish merchants in the capital Bamako).

These cold rooms have a capacity of 80m3 and are designed to refrigerate 850kg/day of fish. They are powered by 10kWp solar plants with a 400V three-phase energy conversion. This project is part of the EU’s “PRORESA” programme (Programme de renforcement de la sécurité alimentaire au Mali) implemented by ENABEL, the Belgian development agency.
